The UGRs® Stock Take for workplace safety
A distinctive diagnostic that uncovers the prevailing unwritten rules shaping risk decisions, reporting, speaking up and learning.
Why it is different
Traditional surveys can tell you whether people agree with a statement. The UGRs Stock Take asks people to complete carefully designed sentence starters in their own words.
A consistent core first establishes the current state of safety culture. It then examines contributing cultural conditions—including how people are treated, whether difficult issues can be discussed, openness to better ways of working, and cooperation within and across teams.
Because the core framework is standard, organisations gain international benchmark perspective as well as the detail behind the results. Optional additional lead-ins can explore priorities unique to the organisation.
One diagnostic. Two connected views.
Benchmark the core. Understand the context. Focus the action.
How the Stock Take works
Begin with a proven, standard safety framework supported by international comparison data.
Add optional organisation-specific lead-ins where leaders need to explore an additional cultural priority.
Invite people to describe how safety really works and assess whether each experience helps or hinders.
Bring scores, employee language, priority signals, cross-cutting patterns, strengths and inferred UGRs into one structured view.
Work with Steve or Stef to test interpretations, challenge assumptions, choose priorities and agree practical next steps.
The Culture Intelligence Sensemaking Report
The report sits between measurement and action. It helps leaders see the strongest signals, examine how issues connect and protect cultural strengths before deciding what to prioritise.
Scores, recurring language and employee experience are brought together so the meaning behind the numbers remains visible.
Potential areas of severity, consequence and leverage are surfaced for discussion—not presented as predetermined organisational priorities.
Helpful and unhelpful cultural patterns are inferred for leadership review alongside the strengths that should be deliberately protected.
Workshop questions and leadership guidance support disciplined sensemaking before action plans, training or broad announcements begin.

The value of visibility
The Stock Take shows leaders where the safety system is supported by the culture—and where unwritten rules quietly work against it.
